A few people sent me a link this week to a Facebook page reposting my Shorts. Then a couple more sent me the same thing. So I went and looked myself, and yeah, there’s a whole page built around my content, using my videos to push a business that has nothing to do with me.
Let me clear something up, because I realize I’ve never actually said this out loud anywhere. I have a Facebook page. I haven’t posted to it in over three years, and I have never once uploaded a Short directly to Facebook, not one, ever. My real page is facebook.com/Coolstax. That’s it. That’s the only Facebook page that’s actually mine. If it’s not that page, it’s not me, whatever name or logo it’s using.
I’m not saying this page is pretending to be me personally. I’m saying it’s running my footage, my voice, without asking me, and letting people assume it’s connected to me somehow. That’s the actual problem here.
Why I’m Not Filing A Takedown
I looked into what it’d actually take to handle this the “proper” way and honestly, it’s more than I want to deal with right now. It’s not one video, it’s a pattern of reposting, so you’re talking formal documentation, probably a DMCA notice, proving ownership on content that was never even on their platform to begin with, and then sitting around waiting on a process that drags and doesn’t always go anywhere useful.
I’ve got a channel to run, a store to run, and Stack Heavy to keep building. I don’t have it in me right now to go chase some Facebook page around with legal paperwork over content that most of my actual audience isn’t even seeing there anyway, since they’re already watching it on YouTube.
So instead, I’m doing two things: writing this post, and making a video calling it out so people actually know what’s going on.
What Might Change, And What Won’t
I might start posting my new Shorts to Facebook going forward, same day they go up on YouTube, just so there’s a clean record of me posting it first. Right now, since I’ve never uploaded there, anything showing up on Facebook isn’t coming from “the platform” in a way their own systems would catch automatically. It’s someone pulling it off YouTube and re-uploading it. If I start posting it myself first, that changes. A repost after that point isn’t just recycled YouTube content anymore, it’s a direct steal off the same platform, and that’s a different animal as far as Facebook’s own tools go.
I haven’t fully committed to that yet, still weighing whether it’s worth the extra step every time I put out a Short. But here’s the important part: if I ever do start posting to Facebook, it will be on facebook.com/Coolstax. Not a new page, not a rebrand, that exact page. I’m not going to spin up some new “official” Silver Seeker page down the road, so don’t fall for one if it shows up.
What I’d Ask From Anyone Reading This
If you run into a page on Facebook using my name, my footage, or my branding, and it’s trying to sell you something or act like it speaks for me, it doesn’t. The only Facebook page I actually run is facebook.com/Coolstax, and I haven’t posted there in years. Anything Silver Seeker related that shows up anywhere else on Facebook is fake and it’s stealing content. If you want what I actually put out, YouTube is where I post it, period.
I’ll update this post if anything changes on my end. For now, just remember: YouTube for the videos, facebook.com/Coolstax if there’s ever anything on Facebook, and nothing else.
